Exhibitions are a great place to get your company or service noticed, with hundreds if not thousands of potential customers right at your fingertips.

However, the experience can be a bit daunting if you are new to exhibitions and trade fairs. We have put together an easy to follow guide for making the most of an exhibition opportunity.

Be Prepared

It is very important to plan everything in advance. As soon as you have a confirmed date for the exhibition you need to start making a list of all the things you need to do beforehand, as well as everything that you will need to take with you.

For instance, if tables are not supplied at the venue then you will need to arrange this prior to the event. If you wish to have leaflets or posters at your stand, you will need ample time to design and print them. Branded merchandise that you can hand out is also a great idea, such as promotional pens with your company branding on. Make sure that you order these in plenty of time.

Advertise on Social Media

Spreading the word that you will be at a certain event is vital when it comes to encouraging potential customers to come and interact with you. Social media is one of the easiest and cheapest ways of doing this, with the ability to add weekly updates on how your preparations are going and informing people of exactly where your stand will be at the venue.

This is a great way to advertise if you are planning to offer discounts to anyone who signs up to your service on the day. You can also reach future clients through trade publications, if you wish to invest a little money into reaching your potential customer base.

Try to be Different

The aim for an exhibition is to try and stand out from all of the other businesses. Think of ways that you can decorate your area to attract those walking past, with attractive posters and branding that will catch the eye.

Offering something free will often encourage people to stop. Free snacks, tea or coffee and somewhere to sit are great ways to lure people over, the perfect opportunity for you to start a conversation and start selling! Promotional merchandise is also a great way to entice people over to your table, as it’s hard to resist something for nothing!

Have the Right People on your Stand

It’s vital to have the best people on your stand to represent your business. You will need someone who is confident and will not shy away from approaching people as they pass by.

They will need to know your business inside and out, with an answer to every question that may possibly be asked. Make sure they dress appropriately and are ready to be at the stall all day, with only minimal breaks. It will be a long day, but the potential business that you can secure will make it worth while.

Have a Competition

This is a fun way to attract potential customers to your stand. Think of a good prize that people will want to try and win, then come up with a creative yet personal way of asking them to enter. This could be anything from a raffle to a quiz; it’s surprising how the possibility of winning something can get people excited!
